I had never heard of Ohrid until I got to Skopje, but everyone I met there told me I had to check it out. I saw that the Ilinden Uprising monument in Krushevo was sort of on the way (added around 2 hours to an already 3 1/2 hour drive), so I decided to rent a car and go for the weekend.

From Wikipedia, “Lake Ohrid straddles the mountainous border between the southwestern part of North Macedonia and eastern Albania. It is one of Europe’s deepest and oldest lakes, with a unique aquatic ecosystem of worldwide importance, with more than 200 endemic species.”
